Though the number of Sabarimala pilgrims arriving at the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple is increasing day by day, the lack of adequate facilities is putting the pilgrims to immense suffering.
''Inadequate number of toilets is one of the main problems faced by pilgrims from other states,'' said Subrahmanian, a devotee who arrived from Tamil Nadu.
''The City Corporation, which has the responsibility to ensure facilities for pilgrims, is doing very little,'' said Ayyappa Seva Samajam secretary Jayakumar.
''The three toilet complexes in front of the temple are quite inadequate to cater to the demands of the large number of pilgrims. The Corporation should set up temporary toilets near the temple,'' he said.
''There is sufficient space near the Vaikuntam and the Bhajanappura palace to set up temporary toilets,'' he said. Some pilgrims complained that the hotels and wayside eateries are charging exorbitant rates from pilgrims too.
''Many of us who arrive from other states are poor. But we are charged high rates at these hotels,'' said Aditya, a driver and a pilgrim who came from Karnataka. Most of the hotels still do not display the price list, despite a warning from the district administration.
Though sufficient traffic personnel were absent in the initial days, more number of policemen have been deployed near the temple on Sunday. Pilgrims' vehicles are now diverted to Attukal, Enchakkal and Karikkakom areas now. But absence of toilet facilities is posing problems for pilgrims arriving at Enchakkal.
The temple authorities should take steps to put an end to the fleecing of pilgrims in the temple, said Jayakumar. ''Traders inside the temple complex give pilgrims the 'thattam' with coconut, fruits and flowers to be offered to the Lord. But many come to know that it would cost them Rs 50 only when they are approached by their agents near the main door,'' said Jayakumar.
Many also flayed the special 'darshan' offered by charging Rs 20 from Sabarimala pilgrims. ''This is a discrimination to the pilgrims from distant places. The temple authorities' claim that the amount is to be paid to the staff who do additional work is laughable,'' said Pradeep, a local.

Why this kolaveri, Dhanush?
Dhanush, the new generation poetu, has taken music lovers, especially those young at the heart, by awe with his latest song, 'Why this kolaveri di...' from '3', his pet project that is being directed by his wife Aishwarya Dhanush. He shares screen space with Shruti Haasan in the film.
Even as two songs with colloquial lyrics from 'Mayakkam Enna' are sky-rocketing the charts, this song has come as yet another surprise from the National Award winning actor. Tunes for '3' have been composed by debutant Anirudh, who we must say, has managed to make a good impact with his very first single, especially in social networking sites.
The rough cut of the song was leaked and created waves in the internet. Following which, making the best of this response, the makers released the official version of the song which is way better than the rough cut in every aspect. They also released the making of the song, which has received more than one lakh views overnight!
If the rest of the album is to be as entertaining as this single track, Anirudh is sure here to stay!

Shakal Pe Mat Ja – Movie Review
In Shakal Pe Mat Ja, it is four friends, Ankit Sharma (Shubh), Rohan Malhotra (Chitrak Bandhopadhyay), Bulai (Harsh Parekh) and Dhruv Sharma (master Pratik Katare) who get caught by anti-terror police at the international airport for suspected activity. The activity? They are capturing on camera the landing of a plane.
The comedy-of-errors is meant to be a rib-tickler of sorts. Bumpkin type, commoner protagonists meet equally blundering anti-terror police officers Chavan (Saurabh Shukla), and police officer Om Prakash (Raghubir Yadav). The recipe sounds like fun but isn't as crackling. A long-drawn out screenplay and misfiring chemistry between actors constantly get in the way of an enjoyable time.
The film is a debut venture of Shubh who also plays the lead. While he plays the lead with a decent amount of capability, the direction sorely lacks vision or guidance. Tacky dialogues and tackier events weave a flimsy story together that does no one any real service.
In between the contrived mayhem of innocents mistaken for criminals there is a track of Ankit's girlfriend Prachi (Aamna Shareif) that doesn't really fit into the story. It makes the whole ensemble look patchier than ever.
The film boasts of some good talent that generally has us enjoying our cinematic outings. But tagged with a reluctant-to-perform script and seriously unfunny lines Saurabh Shukla, Raghuvir Yadav, Zakir Hussain and ilk have anything much to sink their teeth into.
Low-budget, non-star films have started to make a distinct niche for themselves. But that niche which dictates its watchability is got to do largely with a strong script and stronger direction. Without either, Shakal Pe Mat Ja remains a forgettable product with nothing to offer.

Vinod Kambli's claim that 1996 World Cup semifinal was fixed rubbished by Azharuddin
Former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin on Friday lashed out at Vinod Kambli for hinting that India's 1996 World Cup semifinal match could have been fixed, saying the allegations have been made by a person who lacks character and were "absolutely rubbish".
"Absolutely rubbish, whatever he (Kambli) is talking. He doesn't know what he is talking, when you have people who have no character and no background come on TV and talk absolute rubbish in front of the nation and demeaning all the players who played in the team, it is totally disrespectful and its very sad," a livid Azhar told reporters.
Azhar, who was the Indian captain at that time, said the decision to field first was a collective decision. "May be when he was sitting in the meeting, he must have been sleeping," he added.
