FB Phone from Vodafone

Vodafone and Facebook have come together to launch a mobile handset catering to social networking enthusiasts. The phone integrates Facebook as default homescreen once switched on.

Vodafone Blue, largely meant for emerging markets, is priced at Rs 4,950 and expects to tap into the youth segment. It will come with unlimited access of Facebook for a year, as the British telecom giant looks to shore up its data revenue. Vodafone will retail the handset across 4,000 outlets in the country. The telco said it will look to upgrade the phone by offering regional language options and localized content, a must to penetrate the Indian market, along with 3G and WiFi in the next 12-18 months.

Out of Vodafone's 143 million subscribers in India, about 29 million are active data service users. Data accounts for 8% of Vodafone India's revenue and customers using facebook on the network has grown four times in the six months said the telco. The handset which has a designated Facebook button has been manufactured by TCL-Alcatel for Vodafone and was conceptualized a year ago.
