Sekhon’s squadron to be honoured 44 years after his feat

Nearly 44 years ago, a young pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF) turned into a legend over the skies of Kashmir, taking on six Pakistan Air Force F-86 Sabres in his tiny Gnat. Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon fought till the last and was awarded the IAF’s first and only Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
